NARATHIWAT
 
Narathiwat is another southern most province of Thailand, bordering on the Malaysian territory at the east coast of Malayu Penninsula. It is a land of cultural exchange and economical activities, especially at Amphoe Su Ngai Ko Lok which is an important junction where the Thai southern railroad ends and corrected by another railway communication through the border to Tumpad Station in Malaysia.
 
This province has beautiful natural sceneries of both the forests and the seaside resorts. Two in three parts of the area are covered with forest and mountains and there are flat lands, bordering The Gulf of Thailand, and a basin of 4 rivers, Sai Buri RIver, Bang Nara River, Tak Bai River, Su-Ngai Kolok River. This place is also the land of gold mine and a nice shopping place where Malaysian and Singaporean like to come in holidays.

In the past, Narathiwat was a southern borderland named " Ban Bang Nara" or "Manalo". It was located near the Bang Nara River and the sea. In the reign of King Rama I, this village is under the administration of Sai Buri. Later, it became under the administration of Ra Ngae town of Pattani precinct.

In 1906, Bang Nara became a big trading city with nice water and land tranportations. King Rama V moved the administration office from Ra Ngae to Manalo. In 1915, King Rama VI changed the name of the town to "Narathiwat", meaning to the living place of good people.


Most of inhabitants are Islams who write and speak in Yawee language, developed from Malayu speaking with the letters and vowels of Arabian. The weather here is humidy hot. Average Temperature here is 27 - 29 celcious. The province has 2 seasons, hot and rain. The rain hardly falls in Nov. - Dec.

This province is noted for its Ba Cho Waterfall, a massive seated golden Buddha at Wat Khao Kong, Thaksin Rajcha Tamnak palace, and the border town of Sungai Golok with its liberated nightlife.

BOUNDARY  :  NORTH = PATTANI WEST = YALA EAST = THE GULF OF THAILAND SOUTH = MALAYSIA
