KRABI

Krabi is located southwest of Thailand. There are 30 islands on its Andaman Sea. General geographic condition of Krabi is mountains, hills, plains. The still pristine jungles include white mangrove and mangrove forests. Major attractions of Krabi are the beautiful Phi Phi islands, the 75-million years old Susan Hoi shell graveyard, one of the only three in the world, and the sweeping Noppharat Beach.

Since the period 25,000 - 35,000 B.C., Krabi has been home to homosapiens. Ancient colored pictures, beads, pottery and skeletal remains are found in many cliffs and caves at the 'Ban Thai Samor', one of twelve towns that used the monkey for their standard, before people were widely literate.

At the time of 1200 A.D, Krabi was tributary to the Kingdom of Ligor, a city on the Kra Peninsula's east coast which is Nakhon Si Thammarat now. In 1872, King Chulalongkorn graciously elevated these to town status, called Krabi. The name of Krabi preserves in its meaning the monkey symbolism of the old standard. Some historians assume that it means to an ancient sword that found before the town establishment.

Krabi's mountainous physical geography is broken by highlands and plains on the mainland with natural forest cover, chiefly mangrove and Cassia trees. The Krabi River flows 5 kilometers through the city and falls into the Andaman at Tambon Pak Nam. Its sandy clay soil conditions are perfect for plantations, such as rubber trees, palms, mangos, coconuts, and coffee.

Tropical monsoon climate creates two seasons here. The hot season is in January to April and the rainy season is in May to December. Monsoon winds change directions according to season. Temperatures range between 16.9 and 37.3 degrees Celsius and the yearly rainfall averages 2,568.5 mm.
