CHANTHABURI

Chanthaburi is an ancient city on the eastern shore of Thailand, aged over a thousand years. This province is blessed with natural beauties. A fertile land with nice weather is good for cropping plants such as durian, rambutan, mangosteen, peppers, para rubber, etc. Specially, this is a famous center of gems production.

This province plays an important role in the history of the nation. The town was builted by Khom people, firstly at the front of Sa Bap mountain. The city was moved to the west of Chanthaburi River in 1657.

After the Ayuthaya - Burma war in 1767, King Taksin had used this province as a military base to bring back freedom to Ayuthaya. The city was invaded by French in 1893. 11 years later, King Rama V traded it back by giving the right area of Mekhong River (now it is a part of Laos). The city was established as a province in 1933.

Nice attractions here are mountains, bountiful orchards, waterfalls, sea and beaches, ancient cutural heritages and architactures. It is the place of Thailand's largest Christian church, Khao Khitchakut, Namtok Phlui National Park, etc.
