UTHAI THANI

Uthai Thani is situated in the lower part of the northern region. Most of the area are fertile forests and high mountains. The verdant forests here are the home of important scarce species, especially at Huay Kha Khaeng Wild Life Sanctuary. The park is important as one of the World Heritage sites.

Recent excavations have indicated that this area was inhabited by prehistoric people. At some parts of the province, There are evidences of prehistoric human's settlement and Dvaravati aged ancient cities.

By Thao Mahaphrom of Sukhothai Kingdom, the town was built at Ban Nong Chang that was in the circlement of Kharen and Mon people. So people called it as "Muang U-thai" (an enclave of Thai). Once, this land was so scarce and villagers abandoned it. After Kharens constructed a lake, the town became brash again. Villagers densely moved to the Sakae Krung riverside in early Rattanakosin period. That place is a current area of the city.

Interesting attractions here are Huay Kha Khaeng Wild Life Sanctuary which is the most famous forest of Uthai Thani and Sakae Krung River.
