          Bangkok was designated as "Venice of the East" since the early 19th century. Chao Phraya River or The River of Kings and its canals branched into the city and suburbs are locations of beautiful scenes. Passing through centuries, the scenes still seem to be memorable vignettes.

          The river view presents beautiful towns and architectures of glittering temples, palaces, ancient houses, modern buildings. Thai water-borne living can be seen along the rivers and canals, especially at the Bangkok's suburb. Children are swimming in the river. Villagers transport their agricultural products to the floating market by boats.

      The boat trip lets the tourists to experience and impress the view of the rivers and canals in Bangkok and its suburbs. The view is very impressive in the morning and the evening. Major sights are many bridges, the temple of dawn, the Grand Palace, the Thammasat University and its dome, etc.

      It is convenient for tourists to cruise Bangkok's rivers and canals by public transports. Express boats, river crossing ferries, and long-tailed boat are daily service tourists and local people in each area. Tourists mostly hire long-tailed boat for private cruising. However, express boat is also a cheaper choice for back-packers.

      To make a boat trip along the Chao Phraya River, tourists can conveniently catch an express boat at any piers. The most popular boarding piers for tourists are at Tha Chang and Tha Phrachan, near the Wat Phra Kaeo. The express boats service between Bangkok and Nonthaburi, full distance takes about 1.30 hrs.

      There are also express long-tailed boats service daily in the main canals such as Bangkok Noi, Saen Sab, Lad Phrao, etc. Many programs of long-tailed boat trip are available at the floating markets and canals. The trips are various in route and time. Interesting places to go are snake farm, local orchards, Pak Nam temple, Royal Barge dock, many museums and palaces, etc.

      Dinning on a cruising boat is another popular and very romantic activity. In the romantic and windy night, you can have delicious food while crusing through the picturesque Chao Phraya River and enjoy the enchantment of flickering light reflections on the river.
