NORTH NORTHEAST BANGKOK CENTRAL CENTRAL SOUTH EAST
        Northeastern Thailand borders on Laos and Cambodia, the region covers an area of one-third of the entire country, which more than 170,000 km2. Its local name is 'E-san', which denotes its prosperity and vastness. This area is noted for being a center of historical cities and centuries-long cultures, offer a scenic historical towns and ruins of age-old civilization and customs.
 
There are traces of Thai ancestors, who settled down in the region since pre-historic time. The remains of skeletons, elaborate pots, tools and bronze works serve as the most concrete evidence of a Bronze Age civilization, flourishing 5,000 to 7,000 years ago. The most famous discovery is in Ban Chiang area.
     
On both banks of Mun, the major river that flowing for E-sarn lives, the relics and monuments still stand and attesting to the splendors and majesty of the ancient era. They are the most important and interesting historical structures in the area, including the sacred Phra That Phanom, Prasat Hin Khao Phanom Rung, Prasat Hin Phimai, etc. Arts and cultures in the area are influenced by Khom culture.
     
Northern Thailand and is famous for hospitable and courteous people, as well as many sites of archaeological and cultural interest. Such as the Ancient City of Sukhothai, which used to be the first capital of Thailand some 700 years ago, that offers attractive natural scenes, the mountains, and villages of hill tribes. The focal point for visitors is Chiang Mai, the old Lanna capitals, which now is the brashest area.
     
The charms of Northeastern Area are in its distinctive ancient traditions and customs that are still reflected in fairs and festivals. These include the colorful Bun Bung Fai (Fire rocket festival), the Candle Procession and the Wax Castle Festival.
Folk performances of the region are both delightful and symbolic, including the Pong Lang, Khan, Soeng Kratip, Rabam Fat Khao.
     
The world-famous Matmee silk, wickerwares and earthenwares are the well-known local products of the Northeast, which are manufactured in most provinces. The most famous foods of E-sarn are Som Tam (Spicy green papaya salad), Larb (Spicy meat salads), grilled and fried pork products, etc.
