NORTH NORTHEAST BANGKOK CENTRAL CENTRAL SOUTH EAST

Northern Thailand, the home of Thailand's earliest civilization, occupies an approximate area of 170,000 square kilometers, bordering on the territories of Laos and Myanmar. It is surrounding with picturesque natures, mountains, forests, orchards, and rice fields in the verdant valleys. The weather here is cool, especially from November to February.
 
Northern Thailand is a home of the ancient Lanna Kingdom in late 13th century. The charm of ancient cities can be found in lots of architectures, monuments, museums and venerable temples, which bear witness to the Lanna Kingdom and Khmer Empire.
     
The remains found in the historical sites of Sukhothai, Sri Sachanalai and Kamphaeng Phet are dated on 11th - 12th centuries. Some evidences are influenced by Khmer Empire's art.
     
Northern Thailand and is famous for hospitable and courteous people, as well as many sites of archaeological and cultural interest. Such as the Ancient City of Sukhothai, which used to be the first capital of Thailand some 700 years ago, that offers attractive natural scenes, the mountains, and villages of hill tribes. The focal point for visitors is Chiang Mai, the old Lanna capitals, which now is the brashest area.
     
There are many spectacular UNESCO world heritage sites of most fertile forest, including Thung Yai Naresuan, Huai Kha Khaeng, and fascinating old civilized kingdom scenes in the historical parks, Sukhothai, Sri Sachanalai, and Kamphaeng Phet.
     
In the far north, the area is also the paradise of mountain biker and adventurous trekker, to explore the remote villages. Hill tribes can be found in the rich mix of diverse cultures and scenery. There are six main groups of hill tribes, Akha, Hmong, Lisu, Karen, Lahu, Mien, etc. Each group has their own heritage of language, clothing, religion, and culture.
   
Elaborate crafts and arts of Northern Thais reflect centuries-old Lanna expertise. This is a center of high quality crafts such as wooden carving, silverware, ceramic and lacquerware. Especially, the variety of the distinctive local textiles, silk and cotton, that dates from the early Lanna period. Including the Pha Sin, Pha Kaoma, and Thai Lue cotton fabrics. And also the umbrella painting is an emblem of Northern Thailand.
