King Rama I King Yod Fa Chula Lok
(1782-1809)

The king Rama I has transferred the Royal Capital from "Thonburi", the east side of Chao Phraya River, to "Krung Thep" at the west side. The Grand Palace was built in his reign.

King Rama II King Leod La Naphalai
(1809-1824)

The king Rama II continued the restoration begun by his predecessor.

 

King Rama III King Nang Klao
(1824-1851)

During the King Rama's reign Siam was threaten to be conquered by Britain and France according to the imperialism philosophy. However, he successfully protected and re-opened the relationship with Western nations and developed trade with China.
King Rama V King Jom Klao
(1851-1868)
The king Rama IV solved problems to avoid European colonization. He began the modernization policy and opened Siam up to foreign trade. He made many social and economic reforms.
King Rama V King Chulajom Klao (Chulalongkorn)
(1869-1910)
King Rama V skillfully protected Siam from colonization. He modernized Siam by abolishing slavery and improving administrative and financial system, military, police force, and public welfare. He ordered the contructions of roads, bridges, canals, railroads, schools, hospitals, etc.
King Rama IX King Mongkut Klao (Vajiravudh)
(1910-1925)
King Rama VI made several interesting reforms. He introduced the compulsory education, the boy scouts training, the Wild Tigers military training program, the using of family names, etc.
King Rama VII King Bhumibol Adulyadej
(1925-1935)
During the reign of The king Rama VII, Siam was transformed from being an absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy. He abdicated in 1933 and was succeeded by his nephew.

King Rama VIII King Ananda Mahidol
(1935-1946)

During the reign of king Rama VIII, the country's name was changed from Siam to Thailand, meaning "the land of freedom", with the advent of a democratic government in 1939.
  King Rama IX King Bhumibol Adulyadej
(Present Time)
Now is a reign of king Rama IX, who was recognized as the most dedicatory. He is currently the longest reigning king in the history of Thailand and in the world. Thailand is ruled peacefully under his reign.
