Tai , believing to be the
ancestor of Thai people, came from the Altai Mountain Range
in Southern Mongolia. They founded the Nanchao Kingdom in
Southern China, which now is Yunnan, Kwangsi and Canton.
Later, a great number of
them migrated south. They settled and set up small city-states,
which are rapidly grown into powerful kingdoms. Including
Lan Na (in Northern Thailand), Sukothai (in Central Thailand)
and Lan Xang (in the land of Laos).
1259 - Late 18th A.D.
Kingdom endures for 600 years and remained autonomous into the
19th century. Chao Khun Mengrai, the first Lanna ruler has extended
the rule into Burma. The golden age of Lanna was in the reign
of Ku Na and Tilok.
Kingdom has distinctive cultures and arts (Chiangsaen arts)
that can be seen in the North of Thailand. The Emerald Buddha,
the most reverent buddha image of Thai people, was created in
1238 - 1378 A.D.
is the golden era of Thai history.
Its name means "The dawn of happiness", which was
civilized in religion, culture, and arts.
Sukhothai was established by King Sri Intrathit,
a king of Phra Ruang Dynasty, who has declared independence
from Khmer Empire.
Kingdom prospered and expanded widely, to Khong River in the
east and Singapore in the south.The state, on the land of fertility,
was governed by paternal and benevolent kings.
arts are influenced by Khmer and Mon styles. In
this period, Buddhism was imported from India and Thai language
was created by King Ramkhamhaeng.
